Links in Instagram captions can't be clicked. A Link in Bio page solves that. It is a public web page for one Instagram account that shows your recent posts as a grid. Each post opens the link you gave it. You can add buttons, choose colors, and write a short bio.
You put the page's address in your Instagram profile bio. Followers tap it, see your posts, and tap through to the story, event, or service they saw on Instagram.
Before you start
- Link in Bio is for Instagram accounts only. The option does not appear on accounts from other networks.
- The Instagram account must already be connected to CivAll Social.
- You need the Manage Accounts permission for that account.
Turn on a Link in Bio page
- Go to Accounts.
- Find the Instagram account and open its actions menu (the three dots at the end of the row).
- Click Link in Bio. The editor opens.
- Click Enable Link in Bio at the top right.
Before you turn it on, the editor shows the default design with every control grayed out. Once it is on, the controls unlock and a phone preview appears on the right side of the screen.
Note
On a narrow screen or small window, the phone preview is hidden. Use View live to see the page instead.
Add posts to the page
The post grid fills itself. It shows posts you publish from CivAll Social that have a Link in Bio link. You add that link when you write the post:
- In the composer, on the Instagram post form, find Link in Bio.
- Paste the web address the post should lead to.
- Finish and publish the post as usual.
After the post is published, it appears on the page with your other linked posts. Tapping it opens the link you pasted.
- The field is optional. Posts without a Link in Bio link do not appear on the page.
- If you have not attached a photo or video, the link’s image becomes the post’s photo.
- An Instagram Story can’t carry a Link in Bio link, so the field is hidden while Story is selected. See Feed, Story, or Both.
- The grid shows your 24 most recent linked posts, newest first, three to a row.
- Posts published outside CivAll Social, such as in the Instagram app, do not appear.
CivAll refreshes the page on its own about every 30 minutes. It also refreshes right away each time you click Save in the editor.
Get the address for your Instagram bio
- In the editor, click the More actions menu (the three dots at the top right).
- Click Copy URL. You see “Link copied.”
- In Instagram, edit your profile and paste the address into your bio link.
Link in Bio addresses start with civgo.us. Most are civgo.us followed by the Instagram handle. If that address is already in use, CivAll adds your organization’s short name before the handle. Always use Copy URL so you get the exact address.
To open the public page in a new browser tab, click View live.
Save your changes
Changes appear in the phone preview as you make them. They are not public until you click Save.
- While you have changes that are not saved, Unsaved changes shows next to the Save button.
- When the save works, you see “Changes saved.”
- If you try to leave the editor with unsaved changes, CivAll asks you to confirm first.
To edit another account’s page, click the @handle next to the Link in Bio title and pick an account. The list shows accounts that already have a page turned on.
What each option does
The editor has four sections. They are listed here in the order they appear.
Profile picture
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show profile picture | Shows the Instagram account’s profile picture at the top of the page. Turn it off to hide the picture. |
| Bio text | A short description shown under your handle. Line breaks are kept. Leave it empty to show no bio. |
Your @handle always appears at the top of the page. Follower counts are never shown.
Colors
Under Background type, choose Solid or Gradient.
| Color | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Background (Solid) | The page background. |
| Start, Middle, End (Gradient) | A background that blends from the top of the page to the bottom. |
| Accent | The fill color of your buttons. It also fills the circle behind your initial when no profile picture can load. |
| Text | The color of your @handle. |
| Button text | The words and icons on your buttons. |
Set a color by clicking its swatch, or type a hex code such as #0EBED5.
Tip
Pick a Button text color that stands out against your Accent color, so buttons are easy to read.
Link buttons
Link buttons appear above the post grid. Use them for links that don’t belong to one post, such as your website, a sign-up form, or a contact page.
- Click Add link button.
- Choose an icon, or leave it as No icon. The icons are Link, Star, Heart, Location, Email, Phone, Calendar, LinkedIn, Ticket, and Tree.
- Type the words for the button in Button label.
- Paste the full web address in the URL field.
Drag a button by its handle (the two lines on the left) to change the order. Click X to remove a button.
Important
Start every web address with https:// or http://. A button without one shows on the page but can’t be clicked.
Mid-roll blocks
Mid-roll blocks sit between rows of the post grid. Click Add item and choose one:
| Item | What it shows | Fields |
|---|---|---|
| CTA block | A headline with a button beside it | Headline, Button text, URL |
| Link button | A single button | Icon, Button label, URL |
After row sets where the block appears. For example, 2 places it after the second row of posts. If the number is higher than the number of rows on the page, the block appears at the bottom of the grid.
Drag blocks to change their order. Click X to remove one.
Track clicks
When someone taps a post on your Link in Bio page, CivAll counts the click. You see the total as Link in Bio Clicks in Post Analytics for that Instagram post. Every tap counts, so one person tapping twice adds two clicks. Clicks from known search engines and link-preview tools are left out. See The Post Analytics report.
CivAll also adds tracking tags to the links on your page (utm_source=civgo and utm_medium=social). If your website uses a tool such as Google Analytics, these visits show up there as coming from your Link in Bio page.
Turn off a Link in Bio page
- In the editor, click the More actions menu.
- Click Disable.
- Confirm. The public page stops working right away.
Warning
Disabling deletes the page and its design. If you turn it on again later, you start over with the default design, and the address may change. Remove the old address from your Instagram bio when you disable a page.
