Cloning a post
Cloning creates a brand-new post prefilled from an existing one. Use it for the content you send on a rhythm — weekly closures, recurring meeting notices, seasonal reminders.
What carries over, and what doesn’t:
| Carried over | Cleared |
|---|---|
| Post text, per network | The schedule — you pick a new time or queue slot |
| Media, including its alt text | Approval state — the clone is a new post and is approved fresh |
| The original target accounts, still selected | |
| Labels and network options |
Tip
Keeping the accounts selected is deliberate, and a change from Social News Desk, which clears them. “Post this again” is what people almost always mean by clone, so re-picking the same accounts every time was friction without a safety benefit. Deselect any you don’t want before you send. On the Publish dashboard, Clone post is offered on published, failed, and partially published rows — not on a post that’s still publishing or on a scheduled row. In Post history it’s offered on failed and partially published rows only. In the Planner, Clone is offered on a post in any state, except that a post with failed accounts offers Retry failed in its place.
Edit & retry
When a post fails on some or all of its accounts, Edit & retry reopens it in the composer with everything as it was, so you can fix the problem and send again.
- Open the … menu on the failed or partially published row and choose Edit & retry.
- Fix whatever the error line named — add the image Instagram required, shorten the text, reconnect the account.
- Send. Only the accounts that failed are retried.
Warning
Accounts where the post already published are never re-posted — retrying a partially published post won’t double-post to the half that worked.
When the problem is the connection, not the post
If the error is about authorization — an expired token, “Confirm your Facebook identity”, an account “not found or not active” — editing the post won’t help. Those rows offer Reconnect account instead, which takes you to the Accounts page so you can restore its authorization. See Reattaching accounts, then retry the post.
