A passkey is a sign-in saved on your device. Instead of typing a password, you confirm it is you with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. Each passkey belongs to your own CivAll account.
Add a passkey
- Click your name and photo at the bottom of the left sidebar, then choose Account.
- Click the Security tab.
- In the Passkeys card, click Add Passkey.
- Under Passkey Name, type a name that tells you which device this is, such as "Work laptop" or "iPhone". You can leave it blank. CivAll then names it "My Passkey".
- Click Continue.
- Follow your browser's prompts. You may be asked for your fingerprint, face, device PIN, or a security key.
When it works, you see "Passkey registered successfully," and the new passkey appears in the list.
If you close the browser prompt before it finishes, you see "Passkey registration was cancelled." Nothing is saved. Click Add Passkey to try again.
Tip
Add a passkey on each device you use for CivAll, such as your work computer and your phone. Then you can sign in from either one.
Sign in with a passkey
- Go to the CivAll sign-in page.
- Click Sign in with passkey.
- Your browser shows the passkeys saved for CivAll. Choose yours and confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN.
You do not need to type your email address first. The passkey tells CivAll who you are.
If you cancel the prompt, you see "Passkey authentication was cancelled." You can try again or choose another way to sign in.
Note
If your organization requires single sign-on, CivAll turns away passkey sign-in and asks you to use Continue with single sign-on instead. See Secure your sign-in.
What the passkey list shows
Each passkey in the Passkeys card shows:
- Its name.
- Synced, when the passkey is backed up by your device or password manager.
- Multi-device or Single-device, depending on whether the passkey can be used from more than one device.
- When you created it and when you last used it.
Rename a passkey
- In the Passkeys card, click the pencil icon next to the passkey.
- In Rename Passkey, type a new Name.
- Click Save.
Names can be up to 100 characters.
Remove a passkey
Remove a passkey when you replace a device or no longer use it.
- In the Passkeys card, click the trash icon next to the passkey.
- In Remove Passkey, click Remove.
After that, the passkey no longer signs you in to CivAll.
Warning
If multi-factor authentication is on and this is your last passkey, removing it also turns multi-factor authentication off. The confirmation warns you first: "This is your last passkey. Removing it will also disable MFA."
Use a passkey as a second step
A passkey can also protect your password. Turn on Require passkey verification after login in the Multi-Factor Authentication card. After you sign in with a password or an email code, CivAll asks you to click Verify with Passkey. See Secure your sign-in for details.
